Watch Collecting

I first became interested in watches during an internship at a product development consultancy around 2015. We were working on some elements of a smartwatch for a traditional Swiss watch brand, and I did a bit of research to learn about their existing product lines. That’s what initially opened my eyes to the world of mechanical watches, and the rest is history. What started with a Timex from my parents and a Seiko 5 I gifted to myself has since developed into a slow-burning passion for idiosyncratic details of all kinds.

To me, watches represent an incredibly unique intersection of so many facets - art, materials science, mechanical engineering, graphic design, human factors, fashion, and history, just to scratch the surface. The automotive sphere ticks a lot of the same boxes, but collecting watches is much more practical than collecting cars.

I don’t like the idea of keeping things which are no longer providing value to me, so while some of the watches below are ones I still own and enjoy, most have since found new homes with those who will enjoy them even more. My collection is constantly evolving, which is a lot more exciting to me than constantly accumulating.
